Mae Uned Technolegau Iaith Canolfan Bedwyr yn uned ymchwil hunan-gynhaliol sy’n datblygu adnoddau ac offer iaith cyfrifiadurol ar gyfer y Gymraeg, yr ieithoedd Celtaidd eraill, a sefyllfaoedd amlieithog.
Mae’r Uned yn gyfrifol am Cysgliad, y pecyn gwirio iaith a chasgliad o eiriaduron cynhwysfawr, ynghyd â nifer o offer gwirio iaith eraill.
Mae’n gwneud gwaith safoni termau, ac yn datblygu geiriaduron electronig ar sawl platfform gwahanol gan gynnwys ar ffurf gwefannau ac apiau.
Mae’n datblygu technoleg lleferydd ar gyfer y Gymraeg ac ieithoedd eraill, ac yn cynnal cronfeydd data enwau lleoedd ar y we.
Mae’r Uned hefyd yn datblygu deunyddiau dysgu drwy gymorth cyfrifiadur, gan gynnwys gemau iaith.
Mae gan yr Uned gysylltiadau agos â nifer o adrannau academaidd yn y brifysgol, gan gynnwys Cymraeg, Ieithyddiaeth, Ieithoedd Modern, Cymdeithaseg a Gwyddorau Gofal Iechyd. Yn 2016 bu’r Uned yn un o sefydlwyr Rhwydwaith Ymchwil Technoleg a’r Gymraeg ym Mhrifysgol Bangor, sy’n dod ag ymchwilwyr yn y maes hwn at ei gilydd o fewn y brifysgol.
Mae ganddi hefyd gysylltiad agos â byd busnes a diwydiant, ac mae’n ymgymryd â chynlluniau Partneriaethau Trosglwyddo Gwybodaeth (KTP).
Workshop "Stronger Together: Sharing translation resources in Wales"

In its strategy for the Welsh language, Welsh 2050: A Million Welsh Speakers, the Welsh Government describes the need for a "modern translation profession that maximizes the use of technology and linguistic resources". This technology consists primarily of translation memory and machine translation, which has the potential to save money and significantly raise the productivity of human translators.
There has already been some discussion and experimentation to share translation resources in order to promote translation technology in Wales, and this year a project at Bangor University goes a step further. With Welsh Government funding, the intention is to establish a long-term system for collecting data from public agencies in Wales, in the form of parallel translation memories and other relevant texts, for redistribution and sharing with other translators and relevant agencies.
The data collected will also be used to create pure machine translation systems, and language models for developing other technologies such as speech to text transcription. By March 2022 we hope to publish the first machine translation system specifically for the health domain health in Wales.
The aim of the first workshop is to share information on the project, and invite public bodies and agencies to collaborate with us by sharing their translation memories and other relevant data, receiving the memories of other organizations in return, and contributing to the development of domain-specific machine translation. There will be an opportunity during the workshop to discuss matters such as data confidentiality, copyright and licensing issues, and learn more about the technology. There will also be an opportunity to discuss ideas and ask questions on the technology and the project.
