CARE are a Community Benefit Society determined to make a positive environmental impact for our local community in North-East Pembrokeshire.
After 13 years hard work we've successfully put up a 700kW wind turbine to generate clean energy. We are now working on developing a share offer to invite people to invest and become members of CARE, which will help grow a fund for the benefit of the local community. We are also working hard to deliver our other community projects, focusing on landscape restoration, creating an eco-friendly space for arts in the community, and offering energy efficiency advice.
Over the years we've worked with other communities, businesses and individuals across North Pembrokeshire; sharing what we have learned along the way, to help build resilience to the changing economy and the changing environment, through community action and enterprise.
Off-Grid Solar Power, a two part course
Please ensure you can commit to BOTH dates:
Saturday 23 September 1:30pm - 5pm
Saturday 30 September 1:30pm - 5pm
Join us in September for this two-part training and increase your understanding of and build confidence with off-grid solar power.
Are you interested in going off-grid with solar power, but feeling overwhelmed by the complexity of the system? Are you unsure what an off-grid solar system can do for you? Then our two-part course on Off-Grid Solar Power is perfect for you!
Led by Dr. Chris Vernon, a chartered electrical engineer with 5 years experience living off-grid and commercial experience designing off-grid solar systems for telecommunications, this course aims to empower you to embark on your own off-grid solar projects. In the first part of the training, you'll learn about the theory of off-grid solar, including the pros, cons, and compromises associated with it. You'll also gain familiarity with system components such as batteries, charge controllers, inverters and the difference between AC and DC.
In the second part of the course, you'll get hands-on experience by working in groups to dimension, design, and cost up two systems. You'll design a small system suitable for a van and a larger system suitable for a house, and learn practical skills such as how to use a multimeter, wire solar MC4 connectors, and crimp copper cable lugs. The course will also cover health and safety when working with solar, ensuring that you can embark on your own off-grid solar project with confidence.
